Münchner Stadtmuseum
(Munich City Museum)
This late gothic building, originally
an armoury, houses several diverse collections of items importat
for the cultural history of Munich, as well as international
exhibits and various special exhibitions, some with demonstrations,
all under one roof, ie. an exhibition of paintings, photos and
models of Munich through the ages, the German Brewery Museum,
the Photography Museum, the Puppet-Theatre Museum and the Musical
Instruments Museum with almost 2,000 exhibits from all over
the world and a comprehensive collection of far-east gongs.
Occasionally there are also concerts and demonstrations. The
associated Film Museum daily shows historical films and important
works from all over the world in the original version, often
in the presence of special guests and lecturers. The Stadtcafe
on the ground floor is also worth a visit, especially on sunny
days when tables are set up in the picturesque inner courtyard.
