Blutenburg Palace
The "Pluedenburg"
situated on the river Würm was constructed in 1430 by
Duke Albrecht III. as a country seat. After 1467 his heir,
Duke Sigismund devoted himself to building churches and castles,
as well as extending Blutenburg, which was one of his favorite
places. In 1488 a church with valuble fittings was built in
Blutenburg, in which Duke Sigismund died 13 years later.
After the destruction of Blutenburg by the Swedish, leaving
only the church standing, the present main building was built
in 1680/81. The palace church is filled with late gothic masterpieces
and consists of an unobtrusive, building with a chancel closed
on three sides. Wooden statues of the 12 Apostles and one
of Christ and Mary from the 15th century are among the palaces
treasures.
Nowadays the international youth library occupies the main
house, in the gate tower is the Erich-Kästner-Memorial
and in the farm buildings a concert hall and restaurant.
