Unterschleissheimer See

This artificial lake was made in 1979/1980 by the extraction of rubble to build the Autobahn over the last 20 yrs it has become almost a natural lake with an ecologically balanced zone, a conservationa area for seabirds during the nesting season and a damp biotop covering 9,5 ha (26 acres) of land, of which roughly 6,5 ha (18 acres) can be used for sunbathing. Families with children especially enjoy this lake as small children have plenty of place to play in the numerous shallow areas. In winter the approx. 8 ha (22 acres) water surface is often frozen providing the visitor with a place to skate, to slide or to play the german winter game of Eisstockschießen, - curling.
