Viktualienmarkt
(Food Market)
In 1807 King Maximilian I moved the food market from the Marienplatz
which had become too small to the area between the Heilig-Geist-Kirche
(Holy Ghost Church) and Frauenstraße. The marketplace
was rebuilt after being badly damaged during the war.
For gourmets a feast for the senses opens here every morning.
High quality and varied delicacies from all over the world
from meat, fish and cheese to organic fruit, vegtables, honey
and flowers all can be bought here. Under the Maypole in the
shade of the chestnut trees there are cosy beergardens cafés
and stalls where you can enjoy local delicacies such as Obazda
(bavarian cream cheese), Weißwürste (white bavarian
sausages) and Brathänchen (grilled chicken).
