College
for Music & Theatre
The Music and Theatre College looks back over a long history:
established in 1830 as a school for singing, it became in
1867 at Richard Wagners initiative the Royal Bavarian Music
School and was privately financed by King Ludwig II. The college
was taken over by the state in 1874 and in 1924 the name was
changed to the Music Acadamy. After being closed for 2 years
because of the destruction of the Odeans building, in 1944
the college moved to it's provisional seat in the Stuck- and
Larischvilla then to it's present building in Arcis- and Luisenstraße
in 1957. In 1998 it changed it's name again to the College
for Music and Theatre.
The college covers 6 study
areas streching from composition, church music, music education,
string and wind instruments to singing and stage management.
There is also a ballett academy and several ensembles which
play at college concerts as well as going on national and
international tours.
